Riding Radar

Portable electronic devices have been used for years to provide personal safety. For example, cameras (film based or electronic) can be used to record visual information that may pertain to events that are related to safety conditions such as during accidents. Audio recorders have also been used to record orally data for similar situations. More recently, advanced technology related to Global Position System (GPS) technologically can add important metadata that reflect precise worldwide location to these visual and oral events. Smartphones are mobile phone built on a mobile computing platform and contain more advanced computing ability and connectivity than standard mobile phones. Smartphones have accelerometers that can detect changes in velocity and magnetometers for magnetic north readings.

Riding Radar is an iPhone IOS application that tracks your whereabouts while on an activity and can manually or automatically sense abnormal, emergency situations where assistance is required. Riding Radar sends offers of assistance from other nearly Riding Radar users or alerts emergency response units

Riding Radar can assist a person disabled while traveling in a vehicle (motorcycle, bicycle, car, truck, off-road, boat, etc.) or without a vehicle (talking, running, climbing, skiing, etc.) through smartphone technology that combines location-aware services provided through its sensors for GPS, accelerometer and magnetometer. Riding Radar technology is aware of all other Riding Radar users and can ask for help from those within vicinity.

This personal data that contains the location and nature of the event can be communicated in real-time using the network connectivity of the smartphone to a system that can locate others within the system that can provide personal human-based assistance of a specific nature to the event originator.

The data that is conveyed to the server that manages all of the event communications does not need any specific personal information of any user in order to provide the assistance services. This maintains the privacy of all the users.

These technologies when properly managed by a software program running on a portable electronic device such as a smartphone forms the basis of an invention that provides the method and apparatus to render real-time safety and assistance to the traveler.
